Ancient Varanasi

We spend most of the day just getting from Amritsar to Varanasi. We start by flying to Delhi and changing planes there to connect to Varanasi. But travel gremlins play with us. We left the hotel early enough but security takes a long time and we are only minutes away from boarding before we get through. One part of the party is not booked through and have to retrieve their bags in Delhi and go through security again. We arrive late and are concerned about our connecting flight but that too is late so things work out. On the personal side I have my first a-fib episode of the trip which lasts for several hours, fortunately the meds tend to keep the heart rate down. Haven’t had an episode for 4 weeks and was starting to think they might not return.
We arrive in Varanasi. Our schedule now changes from the rest of the group. They turn in early to get up early the next morning to see dawn on the Ganges and see the Ghats and the river front.  Susan and I go to witness the nightly prayers on the river front. Seven priests burn incense and chant along with the crowd. Susan and I plan for the Mela tomorrow, we will have our own car and guide. We are more than excited.  We pray and send flower offerings down the Ganges for Sybil’s health.
